Birth rate
This entry gives the average annual number of births during a year per 1,000 persons in the population at midyear; also known as crude birth rate. The birth rate is usually the dominant factor in determining the rate of population growth. It depends on both the level of fertility and the age structure of the population.

Birthweight
The first measurement of the weight of the foetus or newborn made at the time of birth or in the first hours of life, before the significant postnatal weight loss. The most commonly used indicator of low birthweight is a weight of under 2,500 grams (Low Birthweight). Another complementary indicator is a weight of under 1,500 grams (Very Low Birthweight). Break-in-Bulk Point
Commonly, a transfer point on a transport route where the mode of transport (or type of carrier) changes and where large-volume shipments are reduced in size. For example, goods may be unloaded from a ship and transferred to trucks at an ocean port.
