COURSE
CONTENT
This
course consists of 10 interrelated modules.
To be certified, participants must
complete all 10 units.
::
DAY 1
Module
201A – Basic Concepts of Educational Technology
An examination of the pedagogical basis for
technology integration will be carried out.
New ways of thinking and innovative ideas which
have been successfully utilized by teachers
at various stages of technology integration
will also be discussed. Participants will be
asked to relate their personal experiences in
the use of technology in their classrooms, in
either an academic or professional capacity.
Throughout the presentation, participants will
engage in a number of activities designed to
demonstrate their attitudes towards technology,
their experience with technology as well as
to promote collaborative thinking and the exchange
of ideas and experiences.
Module 201B – Planning and Designing
Effective Learning Environments and Experiences
This workshop will help you develop realistic
strategies to create an effective and efficient
technology-rich learning environment in your
classroom. Participants will explore a wide
range of technology options (i.e., productivity
tools, multimedia, imaging, Internet) and learn
to systematically select, manage, and integrate
these resources to fit their grade level and
attainment targets.
Topics to be covered include: the one-computer
classroom, organisation of multiple computer
terminals in the classroom, and student seating
for collaborative work.
::
DAY 2
Module
201C – Evaluation of Technology-based
Resources
This module will introduce participants to the
various software packages available in the schools
and give them the opportunity to explore and
examine their structure and content. They will
discuss, identify and formulate examples showing
when, where and how this software could be incorporated
in their classes. They will also examine the
role and use of the Internet in teaching and
learning and note effective techniques for using
the Internet in the classroom. Participants
will be expected to evaluate software and web
sites using the appropriate instruments.
Module
201D – Assessment and Evaluation in a
Technology-rich Environment
Technology can be used for assessment purposes
at various levels ranging from the management
of the assessment information to a fully automated
assessment system. In this module, participants
will be introduced to the variety of ways in
which technology can assist in the assessment
and evaluation of students. The use of electronic
portfolios and projects to assess student achievement
will be examined, as well as the role of technology
in enhancing self-directed learning. Methods
of alternative and authentic assessment will
also be discussed.
::
DAY 3
Module
201E – Developing Technology-rich Lessons
and Resources
In this module, participants will identify and
review technology-rich lessons. Examples of
technology-rich lessons will be modelled during
the course of the session. Participants will
be provided with guidelines and requested to
find appropriate examples of lesson plans, utilising
the resources available on the Internet. Participants
will then analyse, review and modify these lesson
plans, using the appropriate assessment tools
which will be provided for them. All relevant
subject areas and age levels will be addressed
in this exercise.
Module 201F – Management in a Technology-rich
Classroom
Classroom management is the key to effective,
engaged learning environments. In this workshop,
participants will explore practical, management
guidelines for "real-world" technology
integration. Participants will also be provided
with appropriate information and gain a better
understanding on how to effectively implement
and manage the technical and educational issues
in a technology-rich school, effective staff
development models, and the use of a tool to
assess your school's current technology level.
::
DAY 4
Module
201G – Practicum I
On the fourth day of the workshop, teachers will
create and develop their own technology-rich lesson.
Lessons will implement all relevant elements covered
in the preceding days. These plans will be detailed
and replicable within the scope of facilities
available to teachers. They must clearly identify
the technology to be used as well as how and why
it will be used. Lesson plans must follow the
rubric as identified by the Ministry of Education/Erdiston
College and include the following sections: Objectives,
Set Induction, Development and Closure. Teachers
will make use of the appropriate word processing
software to create and edit these plans.
Module
201H – Practicum Review
In this module, the lessons will be peer reviewed
in order to identify any implementation issues
and strategies and suggest solutions for potential
problems. Appropriate skills will be practiced
– e.g. setting up projectors, classroom
management, correct start and shut-down procedure
and so on. Appropriate skills will be practiced
– e.g. setting up projectors, classroom
management, correct start and shut-down procedure
and so on.
::
DAY 5
Module
201I – Practicum II
Participants will further review and refine
their lessons in preparation for the presentation
session.
Module
201J – Practicum Presentation
Participants will teach their technology-rich
lessons. Teachers will practise classroom management
techniques in the setting of a real classroom
and will learn to deal with issues (technical
or otherwise) which may arise during the delivery
of the lesson. Participants will formally review
the lessons delivered by their colleagues. These
sessions may also be videotaped for further
review and analysis by teachers.
